Kufuor, A True Democrat

President J.A Kufuor of Ghana has proven that he is a true democrat though not firm enough when he issued a statement on Friday to urge his ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to accept the final decision of the Electoral Commission (EC). He said any party that finds the EC’s declaration unsatisfactory could later resort to the courts for redress. His party has run to court to prevent the EC from declaring the result as well as going ahead to hold the last lap of election in the Tain district of Ghana’s Brong Ahafo region to determine the winner. Ghana: Opposition NDC wins polls but…

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has declared the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) winners of 229 out of the 230 constituencies in Ghana’s presidential run-off. Its candidate Prof. Atta-Mills obtained 4,501,466 representing 50.13% while the ruling NPP had 4,478,411 (49.87%).

Ghana should learn from Kenya

Ghana seems to have turned death ears on what happened in Kenya. Already tension is growing around some parts of the West African country as results of the Sunday presidential run-off delays. Supporters of the opposition NDC have besieged the offices of the Electoral Commission demanding the early release of the results. I am posting Judy Kibinge’s short film, “Coming of Age,” which captures events leading to the post-election violence in Kenya recently. Ghana are we listening???

The generally peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections of Ghana is going into a second round because none of the candidates failed to obtain 50% of the votes cast. Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, released the results of the 2008 elections on Wednesday 10 December 2008.
