Telecommunication sponsor of the Black Stars Glo Ghana presented $250, 000 (€184,582) bonus to the Black Stars for finishing second at the recent African Nations Cup in Angola. Ghana lost in a 1-0 final against Egypt for the latter to lift the cup for the seventh time and three times in a row.
Glo spokesman Bode Opesitan said: “We at Glo are very proud of what the Black Stars achieved at the tournament and today we give the $250, 000.”
“Their performance has been hailed by all and we feel we must reward them for a good work done.
“This is only for their showing at the tournament and as they progress and do more we will definitely be there every step of the way to support them.”
Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi was confident the team would sustain their Nations Cup feat when the 2010 World Cup finals begin in South Africa.
He noted: “The Black Stars showing in Angola shows that they can do better at the 2010 World Cup which means Glo will organize a bigger event for us when we return.
“Your (Glo) support for the team has demonstrated the faith and confidence people have in the team.
“We want to assure Ghanaians that the sky is the limit for us and we will ensure to put in our maximum best at the World Cup.”
